Things to do before scheduling your CPA exam
Generally, you need permission to apply for the CPA exam. You need to apply to the appropriate state board of accountancy. Afterwards, the respective board will review your application and decide if you’re eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
Despite, state boards of accountancy have specific criteria for determining CPA eligibility to sit for the exam. Some state boards of accountancy require CPA candidates to have 120 total credit hours to apply for the CPA exam. While others require international candidates to have 150 total credit hours to apply for the CPA exam. 120 credit hours are equal to a Bachelor’s Degree, and 150 credit hours is equivalent to a Master’s Degree.

As soon as you meet the eligibility requirement, you can move further by submitting your exam application. Once your state board receives and approve your exam application - you will soon receive your NTS (Notice to Schedule). The NTS (Notice to Schedule) is your ticket to the CPA exam that contains your ID number which you will use to schedule your CPA exams through Prometric.
Schedule your exam date with Prometric
- Go to the Prometric website
- Click “Schedule” under “Actions” on the left-hand side of the page
- Choose your preferred test site by selecting the applicable country and state (for U.S. test-takers) from the drop-down menus
- Click “Next”
- Review the Terms and click “Next”
- Read through and agree to the Privacy Policy
- Enter your exam ID and the first 4 characters of your last name
- Select your exam location and time
- Schedule your exam
